Scaling and Root Planning in Bellevue

Deep Cleaning to Remove Tartar Below the Gumline

Why Scaling and Root Planing Matters

Scaling is a type of cleaning that removes plaque and calculus (tartar) from the teeth at and below the gum line. Root planing smooths root surfaces so the supportive tissue can better reattach to the root surface. This deeper form of cleaning is commonly referred to as “deep cleaning” and may be used as initial therapy or, in some cases, definitive therapy.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Scaling and root planing goes deeper than a regular cleaning, so local anesthesia is often used for comfort. Your periodontist will focus on removing bacteria and buildup from below the gum line and smoothing the root surfaces to support healthier attachment.
