Pocket Depth Reduction Surgery in Bellevue

Reduce Deep Gum Pockets for Better Long-Term Gum Health

Why Pocket Depth Reduction Surgery Matters

This procedure is recommended when gum pockets are too deep to clean with daily at-home oral hygiene and a professional care program. Your periodontist folds back the gum tissue (flap) to remove disease-causing bacteria and gain better visibility of the diseased root surfaces and bone. Often, irregular surfaces of damaged bone are smoothed (osseous surgery) to reduce areas where bacteria can hide, helping the gum tissue reattach more effectively.

What to Expect During Your Surgery

During pocket depth reduction surgery, the gum tissue is gently folded back to allow access for thorough cleaning and treatment. After bacteria are removed and the area is treated, the tissue is secured back into place. In some cases, a small amount of gum tissue is removed to help reduce pocket depth.

Flap Access For Visibility

Bacteria Removal
Disease-causing bacteria are removed from around the teeth and gums.

Osseous Smoothing
Irregular bone surfaces may be smoothed to limit bacterial hiding areas.

Pocket Reduction And Tissue Repositioning
Tissue is secured into place, and some tissue may be removed to reduce pocket depth.
